Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the IT, Technology and Power sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 fell 0.34% to hit a new 1-month low, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 0.41%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Vedanta Ltd (NS:VDAN), which rose 3.34% or 4.95 points to trade at 153.10 at the close. Grasim Industries Ltd (NS:GRAS) added 3.02% or 21.15 points to end at 718.35 and Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (NS:BPCL) was up 2.75% or 9.00 points to 335.25 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (NS:TCS), which lost 3.18% or 62.70 points to trade at 1904.80 in late trade. Wipro Ltd (NS:WIPR) declined 3.26% or 12.25 points to end at 363.45 and NTPC Ltd (NS:NTPC) shed 2.44% or 3.35 points to 133.70.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Vedanta Ltd (BO:VDAN) which rose 3.38% to 153.00, ICICI Bank Ltd (BO:ICBK) which was up 1.42% to settle at 343.35 and Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (BO:ONGC) which gained 1.39% to close at 139.00.
The worst performers were Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (BO:TCS) which was down 3.39% to 1904.85 in late trade, NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which lost 2.34% to settle at 133.65 and IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which was down 2.30% to 1482.05 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 918 to 655 and 60 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1321 rose and 1140 declined, while 117 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 2.60% to 18.4675.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.77% or 10.15 to $1332.25 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April rose 0.66% or 0.37 to hit $56.35 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 0.50% or 0.33 to trade at $66.17 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.08% to 71.465, while EUR/INR rose 0.15% to 80.8230.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.02% at 96.718.
