Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Capital Goods, Oil & Gas and Public Sector Undertakings sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 fell 0.23%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index fell 0.13%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Bharti Airtel Ltd. (NS:BRTI), which rose 3.10% or 13.80 points to trade at 458.85 at the close. Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (NS:TCS) added 2.15% or 47.50 points to end at 2255.25 and Yes Bank Ltd (NS:YESB) was up 2.22% or 1.00 points to 46.05 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Eicher Motors Ltd. (NS:EICH), which lost 4.34% or 903.80 points to trade at 19892.20 in late trade. Coal India Ltd (NS:COAL) declined 2.53% or 5.20 points to end at 200.20 and Larsen & Toubro Ltd (NS:LART) shed 2.20% or 29.00 points to 1291.55.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which rose 2.74% to 457.55, Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (BO:TCS) which was up 2.26% to settle at 2255.05 and Yes Bank Ltd (BO:YESB) which gained 2.11% to close at 46.05.
The worst performers were Larsen & Toubro Ltd (BO:LART) which was down 2.19% to 1291.35 in late trade, Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (BO:ONGC) which lost 1.75% to settle at 123.50 and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which was down 1.40% to 440.10 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 947 to 595 and 79 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1367 fell and 967 advanced, while 166 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 7.05% to 15.6400 a new 1-month high.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.61% or 9.55 to $1583.85 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 0.41% or 0.26 to hit $62.96 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 0.79% or 0.54 to trade at $68.81 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.17% to 71.718, while EUR/INR fell 0.34% to 79.8425.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.05% at 96.752.
