Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Power, Metals and Fast Moving Consumer Goods sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 declined 0.19%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 0.30%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Tech Mahindra Ltd (NS:TEML), which rose 3.81% or 28.00 points to trade at 760.35 at the close. Asian Paints Ltd. (NS:ASPN) added 2.36% or 32.45 points to end at 1407.30 and Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (NS:TCS) was up 2.50% or 53.70 points to 2196.55 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Yes Bank Ltd (NS:YESB), which lost 4.81% or 7.45 points to trade at 147.80 in late trade. ITC Ltd (NS:ITC) declined 3.50% or 10.10 points to end at 278.55 and Grasim Industries Ltd (NS:GRAS) shed 3.06% or 27.85 points to 886.10.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Asian Paints Ltd. (BO:ASPN) which rose 2.43% to 1406.70, Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (BO:TCS) which was up 2.40% to settle at 2196.85 and HCL Technologies Ltd (BO:HCLT) which gained 1.52% to close at 1093.50.
The worst performers were Yes Bank Ltd (BO:YESB) which was down 4.27% to 147.95 in late trade, ITC Ltd (BO:ITC) which lost 3.61% to settle at 278.65 and Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which was down 2.17% to 647.10 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1059 to 535 and 65 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1511 fell and 978 advanced, while 145 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 2.93% to 16.0675.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.85% or 10.90 to $1298.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 1.91% or 1.08 to hit $55.51 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 2.17% or 1.42 to trade at $63.91 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.23% to 69.897, while EUR/INR rose 0.24% to 77.8995.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.12% at 97.933.
