Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Metals, Fast Moving Consumer Goods and Power sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 fell 0.14%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index fell 0.14%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Yes Bank Ltd (NS:YESB), which rose 4.01% or 7.20 points to trade at 186.75 at the close. Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (NS:HPCL) added 3.45% or 8.15 points to end at 244.45 and Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (NS:BPCL) was up 2.42% or 8.75 points to 371.10 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Grasim Industries Ltd (NS:GRAS), which lost 3.09% or 26.40 points to trade at 828.50 in late trade. State Bank Of India (NS:SBI) declined 2.21% or 6.65 points to end at 294.05 and Wipro Ltd (NS:WIPR) shed 2.19% or 7.45 points to 333.25.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Yes Bank Ltd (BO:YESB) which rose 3.93% to 186.65, Hero MotoCorp Ltd (BO:HROM) which was up 2.06% to settle at 3372.00 and Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which gained 1.90% to close at 795.35.
The worst performers were State Bank Of India (BO:SBI) which was down 2.18% to 293.85 in late trade, Wipro Ltd (BO:WIPR) which lost 2.10% to settle at 333.55 and Vedanta Ltd (BO:VDAN) which was down 2.05% to 202.65 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 834 to 758 and 66 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1313 fell and 1183 advanced, while 160 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 2.23% to 14.3325 a new 3-month low.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.17% or 2.15 to $1258.55 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 3.59% or 1.73 to hit $46.44 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 3.44% or 1.97 to trade at $55.27 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.33% to 70.043, while EUR/INR rose 0.52% to 80.3690.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.77% at 95.745.
