Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Banking, Fast Moving Consumer Goods and Healthcare sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 declined 0.07%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 0.04%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Larsen & Toubro Ltd (NS:LART), which rose 2.73% or 96.40 points to trade at 3,622.95 at the close. Wipro Ltd (NS:WIPR) added 2.10% or 11.05 points to end at 538.40 and Infosys Ltd (NS:INFY) was up 1.74% or 27.70 points to 1,618.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Shriram Finance Ltd. (NS:SHMF), which lost 2.88% or 84.25 points to trade at 2,840.00 in late trade. Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (NS:KTKM) declined 2.39% or 43.15 points to end at 1,764.95 and Bharti Airtel Ltd. (NS:BRTI) shed 2.35% or 34.10 points to 1,419.90.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Larsen & Toubro Ltd (BO:LART) which rose 2.70% to 3,623.00, Wipro Ltd (BO:WIPR) which was up 2.16% to settle at 538.65 and Infosys Ltd (BO:INFY) which gained 1.90% to close at 1,620.00.
The worst performers were Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (BO:KTKM) which was down 2.38% to 1,765.75 in late trade, Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which lost 2.26% to settle at 1,420.30 and IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which was down 1.76% to 1,431.50 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1131 to 1130 and 25 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1984 rose and 1783 declined, while 89 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 1.37% to 13.64.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.25% or 5.80 to $2,333.10 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 0.83% or 0.69 to hit $84.07 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 0.82% or 0.71 to trade at $87.31 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.05% to 83.50, while EUR/INR fell 0.19% to 89.47.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.11% at 105.71.
