Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Oil & Gas, Metals and Real Estate sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 fell 0.06%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 0.02%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were NTPC Ltd (NS:NTPC), which rose 3.05% or 3.75 points to trade at 126.90 at the close. IndusInd Bank Ltd. (NS:INBK) added 2.07% or 18.00 points to end at 888.00 and HCL Technologies Ltd (NS:HCLT) was up 1.94% or 25.10 points to 1317.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Bajaj Auto Ltd (NS:BAJA), which lost 1.89% or 61.70 points to trade at 3200.80 in late trade. Reliance Industries Ltd (NS:RELI) declined 1.81% or 43.40 points to end at 2359.10 and UPL Ltd (NS:UPLL) shed 1.54% or 11.70 points to 746.65.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which rose 3.13% to 126.90, HCL Technologies Ltd (BO:HCLT) which was up 1.94% to settle at 1317.05 and Titan Company Ltd (BO:TITN) which gained 1.85% to close at 2446.00.
The worst performers were Reliance Industries Ltd (BO:RELI) which was down 1.94% to 2356.45 in late trade, Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which lost 1.34% to settle at 1101.10 and Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO:MRTI) which was down 0.82% to 7284.35 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 949 to 843 and 30 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1800 rose and 1456 declined, while 95 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 1.99% to 16.5650.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.26% or 4.65 to $1801.15 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 0.85% or 0.65 to hit $75.91 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract fell 0.78% or 0.62 to trade at $78.59 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.23% to 74.385, while EUR/INR fell 0.54% to 84.1515.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.22% at 96.135.
