Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Banking, Auto and Green Energy sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 declined 0.05% to hit a new 1-month low, while the BSE Sensex 30 index fell 0.13%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were NTPC Ltd (NS:NTPC), which rose 3.81% or 5.15 points to trade at 140.15 at the close. UPL Ltd (NS:UPLL) added 2.37% or 18.30 points to end at 790.25 and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (NS:SUN) was up 1.88% or 15.25 points to 827.35 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (NS:MRTI), which lost 3.05% or 269.25 points to trade at 8550.95 in late trade. Tech Mahindra Ltd (NS:TEML) declined 2.42% or 34.95 points to end at 1410.65 and Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (NS:PGRD) shed 2.16% or 4.65 points to 210.20.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which rose 3.89% to 140.20, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which was up 1.85% to settle at 827.25 and IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which gained 1.72% to close at 903.55.
The worst performers were Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO:MRTI) which was down 2.99% to 8553.20 in late trade, Tech Mahindra Ltd (BO:TEML) which lost 2.43% to settle at 1410.55 and Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) which was down 2.14% to 210.15 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1110 to 695 and 27 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1930 rose and 1324 declined, while 104 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 1.76% to 20.6950.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.26% or 4.65 to $1788.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 0.38% or 0.33 to hit $86.94 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 0.34% or 0.30 to trade at $88.47 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.17% to 75.091, while EUR/INR fell 0.15% to 83.6530.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.10% at 97.335.
