Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Healthcare, Banking and Auto sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the S&P CNX Nifty added 0.08%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index climbed 0.14%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P CNX Nifty were Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (NSE:MAHM), which rose 3.09% or 40.20 points to trade at 1339.60 at the close. Cipla Ltd. (NSE:CIPL) added 2.52% or 17.85 points to end at 725.50 and Tata Power Co. Ltd (NSE:TTPW) was up 2.37% or 1.60 points to 69.15 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Vedanta Ltd (NSE:VDAN), which lost 9.18% or 10.45 points to trade at 103.40 in late trade. TATA STEEL LIMITED (NSE:TISC) declined 6.20% or 15.45 points to end at 233.60 and Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NSE:HALC) shed 5.32% or 5.10 points to 90.80.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which rose 3.27% to 1340.30, Cipla Ltd. (BO:CIPL) which was up 2.63% to settle at 725.55 and Tata Power Co. Ltd (BO:TTPW) which gained 2.44% to close at 69.20.
The worst performers were Vedanta Ltd (BO:VDAN) which was down 9.26% to 103.35 in late trade, TATA STEEL LIMITED (BO:TISC) which lost 6.22% to settle at 233.60 and Hindalco Industries Ltd. (BO:HALC) which was down 5.21% to 90.90 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1022 to 410 and 9 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 492 fell and 259 advanced, while 2 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of S&P CNX Nifty options, was down 2.45% to 17.0175.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was down 0.64% or 7.20 to $1116.40 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 0.24% or 0.10 to hit $43.41 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 0.86% or 0.43 to trade at $50.61 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.25% to 65.111, while EUR/INR fell 0.04% to 72.3670.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.32% at 96.59.
