Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Power, IT and Technology sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 added 0.32% to hit a new 1-month high, while the BSE Sensex 30 index gained 0.39%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were NTPC Limited (NS:NTPC), which rose 5.71% or 9.40 points to trade at 173.90 at the close. POWER GRID CORPORATION OF INDIA (NS:PGRD) added 4.50% or 8.55 points to end at 198.35 and Infosys Ltd (NS:INFY) was up 3.34% or 32.40 points to 1001.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Idea Cellular Ltd (NS:IDEA), which lost 3.35% or 2.50 points to trade at 72.10 in late trade. Lupin Ltd (NS:LUPN) declined 1.82% or 27.75 points to end at 1494.00 and Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (NS:HLL) shed 1.61% or 13.55 points to 827.95.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were NTPC Limited (BO:NTPC) which rose 5.69% to 173.75, POWER GRID CORPORATION OF INDIA (BO:PGRD) which was up 4.14% to settle at 197.60 and Infosys Ltd (BO:INFY) which gained 3.20% to close at 1000.05.
The worst performers were Lupin Ltd (BO:LUPN) which was down 2.03% to 1489.45 in late trade, Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (BO:HLL) which lost 1.76% to settle at 825.75 and ITC Ltd (BO:ITC) which was down 1.29% to 244.30 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 925 to 564 and 70 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1547 fell and 1150 advanced, while 151 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 1.32% to 14.6125.
In commodities trading, Gold for February delivery was up 0.69% or 8.25 to $1204.85 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 0.78% or 0.41 to hit $52.66 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 1.09% or 0.60 to trade at $55.70 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.01% to 68.095, while EUR/INR rose 0.10% to 72.3511.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.53% at 101.16.
