Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Fast Moving Consumer Goods, Oil & Gas and Power sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 rose 0.20%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index added 0.31%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Idea Cellular Ltd (NS:IDEA), which rose 2.69% or 2.50 points to trade at 95.45 at the close. Eicher Motors Ltd. (NS:EICH) added 2.43% or 528.60 points to end at 22268.30 and Lupin Ltd (NS:LUPN) was up 2.34% or 36.10 points to 1580.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Bank Of Baroda (NS:BOB), which lost 9.01% or 14.45 points to trade at 145.95 in late trade. Grasim Industries Ltd. (NS:GRAS) declined 6.27% or 303.90 points to end at 4539.60 and Bharti Infratel Limited (NS:BHRI) shed 2.74% or 10.350 points to 368.000.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were ITC Ltd (BO:ITC) which rose 1.82% to 251.15, ICICI Bank Ltd. (BO:ICBK) which was up 1.27% to settle at 242.35 and Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (BO:TCS) which gained 1.14% to close at 2704.30.
The worst performers were Hindalco Industries Ltd. (BO:HALC) which was down 2.40% to 142.25 in late trade, State Bank Of India (BO:SBI) which lost 1.97% to settle at 226.95 and Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which was down 1.88% to 1420.70 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 887 to 572 and 69 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 964 fell and 647 advanced, while 52 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 4.76% to 14.2125 a new 6-month low.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was down 0.04% or 0.55 to $1351.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 0.12% or 0.05 to hit $41.66 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 0.16% or 0.07 to trade at $44.12 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.29% to 66.868, while EUR/INR fell 0.14% to 74.5110.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.24% at 95.82.
