India shares higher at close of trade; Nifty 50 up 1.08%

Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Oil & Gas, Healthcare and Public Sector Undertakings sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 rose 1.08% to hit a new 6-month high, while the BSE Sensex 30 index added 1.09%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (NS:BPCL), which rose 9.19% or 85.20 points to trade at 1012.00 at the close. State Bank Of India (NS:SBI) added 6.38% or 11.75 points to end at 195.90 and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (NS:SUN) was up 5.85% or 45.60 points to 824.95 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Cairn India Limited (NS:CAIL), which lost 2.23% or 3.15 points to trade at 138.05 in late trade. Tata Power Co. Ltd (NS:TTPW) declined 1.43% or 1.05 points to end at 72.60 and Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (NS:ONGC) shed 1.41% or 3.05 points to 213.00.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were State Bank Of India (BO:SBI) which rose 6.42% to 195.55, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which was up 5.83% to settle at 825.50 and Reliance Industries Ltd (BO:RELI) which gained 2.75% to close at 972.65.

The worst performers were Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (BO:ONGC) which was down 1.64% to 213.15 in late trade, AXIS Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which lost 1.17% to settle at 513.10 and Vedanta Ltd (BO:VDAN) which was down 1.11% to 102.80 at the close.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 848 to 584 and 64 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 914 rose and 661 declined, while 70 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.

The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 0.42% to 15.2600 a new 3-month low.

In commodities trading, Gold for June delivery was down 0.15% or 1.80 to $1218.60 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 1.05% or 0.52 to hit $48.96 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 1.45% or 0.72 to trade at $48.87 a barrel.

USD/INR was up 0.15% to 67.028, while EUR/INR fell 0.03% to 74.9040.

The US Dollar Index was up 0.16% at 95.29.
