Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Metals, IT and Technology sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 rose 0.82% to hit a new all time high, while the BSE Sensex 30 index climbed 0.64%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Tata Steel Ltd (NS:TISC), which rose 8.37% or 53.80 points to trade at 696.90 at the close. Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:HALC) added 6.90% or 16.45 points to end at 254.80 and Eicher Motors Ltd. (NS:EICH) was up 4.34% or 110.30 points to 2653.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Hero MotoCorp Ltd (NS:HROM), which lost 1.63% or 50.65 points to trade at 3052.00 in late trade. Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (NS:KTKM) declined 1.21% or 24.05 points to end at 1970.00 and Bajaj Finance Ltd (NS:BJFN) shed 1.19% or 63.05 points to 5217.10.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (BO:ONGC) which rose 4.02% to 96.95, Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (BO:TCS) which was up 3.71% to settle at 3036.85 and HCL Technologies Ltd (BO:HCLT) which gained 3.05% to close at 979.40.
The worst performers were Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (BO:KTKM) which was down 1.43% to 1965.85 in late trade, Bajaj Finance Ltd (BO:BJFN) which lost 1.14% to settle at 5220.00 and Asian Paints Ltd. (BO:ASPN) which was down 0.72% to 2755.00 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1176 to 507 and 55 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2016 rose and 952 declined, while 157 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 2.40% to 20.0300.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 2.18% or 41.25 to $1936.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 0.89% or 0.43 to hit $48.95 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 1.35% or 0.70 to trade at $52.50 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.12% to 73.029, while EUR/INR rose 0.35% to 89.7710.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.52% at 89.427.
