Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Real Estate, Public Sector Undertakings and Oil & Gas sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 gained 0.69%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index added 0.68%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (NS:PGRD), which rose 3.67% or 7.40 points to trade at 208.95 at the close. Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (NS:IOC) added 2.84% or 3.10 points to end at 112.15 and Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (NS:ONGC) was up 2.70% or 3.70 points to 140.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Divi's Laboratories Ltd. (NS:DIVI), which lost 1.86% or 85.00 points to trade at 4478.50 in late trade. JSW Steel Ltd (NS:JSTL) declined 1.63% or 10.75 points to end at 650.25 and Bharti Airtel Ltd. (NS:BRTI) shed 0.88% or 6.00 points to 678.75.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) which rose 3.40% to 208.40, ITC Ltd (BO:ITC) which was up 2.48% to settle at 217.30 and Bajaj Finance Ltd (BO:BJFN) which gained 2.12% to close at 6917.50.
The worst performers were Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which was down 0.93% to 678.50 in late trade, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which lost 0.80% to settle at 790.70 and Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO:MRTI) which was down 0.57% to 7384.60 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1144 to 628 and 46 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2121 rose and 1097 declined, while 132 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 4.55% to 15.8250.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.24% or 4.35 to $1806.55 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 0.05% or 0.04 to hit $72.72 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 0.04% or 0.03 to trade at $75.31 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.26% to 75.241, while EUR/INR fell 0.25% to 85.2105.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.01% at 96.065.
