Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Oil & Gas, Technology and Banking sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 rose 0.62% to hit a new all time high, while the BSE Sensex 30 index gained 0.80%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Reliance Industries Ltd (NS:RELI), which rose 4.12% or 119.75 points to trade at 3,028.05 at the close. Bharti Airtel Ltd. (NS:BRTI) added 3.33% or 47.05 points to end at 1,462.00 and UltraTech Cement Ltd (NS:ULTC) was up 2.84% or 307.80 points to 11,154.00 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Apollo Hospitals Enterprises Ltd. (NS:APLH), which lost 2.52% or 158.55 points to trade at 6,136.80 in late trade. Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (NS:MAHM) declined 1.99% or 57.90 points to end at 2,851.50 and Tata Steel Ltd (NS:TISC) shed 1.78% or 3.12 points to 172.56.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Reliance Industries Ltd (BO:RELI) which rose 3.87% to 3,020.95, Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which was up 3.31% to settle at 1,462.00 and UltraTech Cement Ltd (BO:ULTC) which gained 2.68% to close at 11,139.00.

The worst performers were Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which was down 1.89% to 2,855.00 in late trade, Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which lost 1.59% to settle at 172.90 and Tech Mahindra Ltd (BO:TEML) which was down 1.28% to 1,410.00 at the close.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1226 to 1021 and 30 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1914 fell and 1825 advanced, while 117 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.

The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 1.87% to 14.05.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.40% or 9.25 to $2,321.55 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 0.93% or 0.75 to hit $81.58 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 0.89% or 0.75 to trade at $84.97 a barrel.

USD/INR was up 0.23% to 83.61, while EUR/INR fell 0.04% to 89.35.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.28% at 105.56.
