Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Power, Metals and Auto sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 added 0.49% to hit a new all time high, while the BSE Sensex 30 index climbed 0.35%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (NS:MRTI), which rose 3.88% or 499.35 points to trade at 13,373.00 at the close. JSW Steel Ltd (NS:JSTL) added 3.54% or 31.90 points to end at 934.00 and HDFC Life Insurance Company Ltd (NS:HDFL) was up 2.80% or 19.55 points to 716.75 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Britannia Industries Ltd (NS:BRIT), which lost 0.72% or 42.20 points to trade at 5,800.00 in late trade. Dr Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd (NS:REDY) declined 0.71% or 48.25 points to end at 6,755.90 and Apollo Hospitals Enterprises Ltd. (NS:APLH) shed 0.63% or 41.55 points to 6,599.45.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO:MRTI) which rose 3.93% to 13,380.35, JSW Steel Ltd (BO:JSTL) which was up 3.64% to settle at 934.90 and Asian Paints Ltd. (BO:ASPN) which gained 2.71% to close at 3,086.00.
The worst performers were Reliance Industries Ltd (BO:RELI) which was down 0.51% to 3,010.00 in late trade, Infosys Ltd (BO:INFY) which lost 0.48% to settle at 1,868.00 and Tata Motors Ltd (BO:TAMO) which was down 0.42% to 1,157.40 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1237 to 1225 and 21 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2012 rose and 1781 declined, while 78 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 3.26% to 13.30.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.48% or 11.70 to $2,463.60 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 2.58% or 1.93 to hit $76.66 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 2.28% or 1.78 to trade at $79.85 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.02% to 83.72, while EUR/INR rose 0.15% to 90.68.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.42% at 103.89.
