Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Metals, Real Estate and Public Sector Undertakings sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 rose 0.44%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index gained 0.40%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:HALC), which rose 10.04% or 41.80 points to trade at 458.10 at the close. Tata Steel Ltd (NS:TISC) added 6.86% or 93.60 points to end at 1458.60 and Bajaj Finserv Ltd (NS:BJFS) was up 3.90% or 545.45 points to 14516.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (NS:MRTI), which lost 2.39% or 171.55 points to trade at 6993.50 in late trade. Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (NS:PGRD) declined 2.15% or 3.68 points to end at 167.40 and Bajaj Auto Ltd (NS:BAJA) shed 1.63% or 62.25 points to 3756.25.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which rose 6.87% to 1459.00, Bajaj Finserv Ltd (BO:BJFS) which was up 4.48% to settle at 14590.45 and State Bank Of India (BO:SBI) which gained 3.83% to close at 441.75.
The worst performers were Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO:MRTI) which was down 2.21% to 6991.90 in late trade, Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) which lost 2.13% to settle at 167.40 and Bajaj Auto Ltd (BO:BAJA) which was down 1.51% to 3762.80 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1032 to 656 and 41 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1837 rose and 1203 declined, while 135 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 5.46% to 12.9450.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 1.22% or 22.00 to $1821.70 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 0.30% or 0.22 to hit $72.61 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 0.28% or 0.21 to trade at $74.08 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.28% to 74.279, while EUR/INR fell 0.00% to 88.2100.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.30% at 92.037.
