Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Metals, Green Energy and Banking sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 rose 0.31%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index climbed 0.33%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Tata Steel Ltd (NS:TISC), which rose 3.09% or 36.60 points to trade at 1219.60 at the close. Divi's Laboratories Ltd. (NS:DIVI) added 1.81% or 76.05 points to end at 4277.55 and Bajaj Finance Ltd (NS:BJFN) was up 1.79% or 124.40 points to 7055.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (NS:ONGC), which lost 2.82% or 4.85 points to trade at 167.25 in late trade. Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (NS:PGRD) declined 1.68% or 3.60 points to end at 210.05 and Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (NS:IOC) shed 1.26% or 1.55 points to 121.35.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which rose 3.10% to 1219.55, Bajaj Finance Ltd (BO:BJFN) which was up 1.74% to settle at 7051.05 and Bajaj Finserv Ltd (BO:BJFS) which gained 1.69% to close at 15975.20.
The worst performers were Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) which was down 1.66% to 210.10 in late trade, Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (BO:TCS) which lost 0.96% to settle at 3742.40 and UltraTech Cement Ltd (BO:ULTC) which was down 0.65% to 7426.35 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1368 to 446 and 20 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2173 fell and 1053 advanced, while 78 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 3.68% to 19.6850.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.10% or 1.75 to $1820.05 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 1.89% or 1.73 to hit $89.59 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 2.10% or 1.95 to trade at $90.74 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.16% to 74.727, while EUR/INR fell 0.10% to 85.3075.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.18% at 95.560.
