India shares higher at close of trade; Nifty 50 up 0.22%

Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Metals, Technology and IT sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 rose 0.22% to hit a new all time high, while the BSE Sensex 30 index climbed 0.23%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Bharti Airtel Ltd. (NS:BRTI), which rose 4.23% or 24.30 points to trade at 598.70 at the close. Eicher Motors Ltd. (NS:EICH) added 3.42% or 90.35 points to end at 2732.15 and ITC Ltd (NS:ITC) was up 3.19% or 6.65 points to 215.25 in late trade.

Biggest losers included State Bank Of India (NS:SBI), which lost 3.30% or 15.10 points to trade at 441.85 in late trade. IndusInd Bank Ltd. (NS:INBK) declined 2.24% or 22.85 points to end at 997.70 and Bajaj Finance Ltd (NS:BJFN) shed 1.74% or 110.90 points to 6248.25.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which rose 4.30% to 598.90, ITC Ltd (BO:ITC) which was up 3.14% to settle at 215.15 and Tech Mahindra Ltd (BO:TEML) which gained 2.55% to close at 1247.85.

The worst performers were State Bank Of India (BO:SBI) which was down 3.33% to 441.85 in late trade, IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which lost 2.20% to settle at 997.50 and Bajaj Finance Ltd (BO:BJFN) which was down 1.78% to 6248.00 at the close.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1170 to 529 and 34 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1966 fell and 1108 advanced, while 115 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.

The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 2.57% to 12.8725.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.03% or 0.55 to $1813.95 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 0.22% or 0.15 to hit $68.30 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 0.04% or 0.03 to trade at $70.41 a barrel.

USD/INR was down 0.08% to 74.090, while EUR/INR fell 0.02% to 87.7335.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.05% at 92.227.
