Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the IT, Technology and Consumer Durables sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 gained 0.16%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index added 0.20%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Bajaj Finance Ltd (NS:BJFN), which rose 2.65% or 181.60 points to trade at 7028.85 at the close. Infosys Ltd (NS:INFY) added 2.16% or 37.40 points to end at 1771.60 and Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (NS:BPCL) was up 1.76% or 6.75 points to 391.05 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:HALC), which lost 1.71% or 7.85 points to trade at 450.50 in late trade. Cipla Ltd. (NS:CIPL) declined 1.64% or 14.70 points to end at 881.00 and ICICI Bank Ltd (NS:ICBK) shed 1.48% or 11.10 points to 741.15.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Bajaj Finance Ltd (BO:BJFN) which rose 2.61% to 7028.60, Infosys Ltd (BO:INFY) which was up 2.19% to settle at 1771.40 and Titan Company Ltd (BO:TITN) which gained 1.47% to close at 2357.20.
The worst performers were Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO:MRTI) which was down 1.51% to 7452.65 in late trade, ICICI Bank Ltd (BO:ICBK) which lost 1.50% to settle at 741.30 and Bajaj Auto Ltd (BO:BAJA) which was down 1.44% to 3250.00 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1170 to 621 and 28 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1811 fell and 1446 advanced, while 98 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 7.68% to 15.8950.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 1.29% or 22.75 to $1787.25 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 1.16% or 0.82 to hit $71.69 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 1.04% or 0.77 to trade at $74.65 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.30% to 76.113, while EUR/INR fell 0.10% to 86.0640.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.30% at 96.190.
