Investing.com – Germany equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Basic Resources, Financial Services and Retail sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX declined 0.48%, while the MDAX index fell 0.88%, and the TecDAX index lost 0.76%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the DAX were Volkswagen AG VZO O.N. (DE:VOWG_p), which rose 1.45% or 1.95 points to trade at 136.35 at the close. SAP SE (DE:SAPG) added 0.27% or 0.240 points to end at 90.500 and BASF SE NA O.N. (DE:BASFN) was up 0.14% or 0.120 points to 88.700 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Deutsche Boerse AG Z.UMT. (DE:DB11), which lost 2.90% or 2.37 points to trade at 79.49 in late trade. Linde AG O.N. (DE:LING) declined 1.86% or 2.85 points to end at 150.30 and Deutsche Bank AG NA O.N. (DE:DBKGn) shed 1.72% or 0.275 points to 15.730.
The top performers on the MDAX were Norma Group AG NA O.N. (DE:NOEJ) which rose 2.35% to 42.005, Evonik Industries AG (DE:EVKn) which was up 1.09% to settle at 29.590 and Wacker Chemie O.N. (DE:WCHG) which gained 0.95% to close at 100.45.
The worst performers were Talanx AG NA O.N. (DE:TLXGn) which was down 3.90% to 31.415 in late trade, Krones AG O.N. (DE:KRNG) which lost 3.23% to settle at 100.450 and Jungheinrich AG O.N.VZO (DE:JUNG_p) which was down 2.21% to 28.955 at the close.
The top performers on the TecDAX were Jenoptik AG (DE:JENG) which rose 2.14% to 21.930, Siltronic AG (DE:WAFGn) which was up 1.54% to settle at 56.750 and S&T AG (F:SANT1) which gained 1.49% to close at 10.378.
The worst performers were Medigene NA O.N. (DE:MDG1k) which was down 7.18% to 10.400 in late trade, Slm Solution G (DE:AM3D) which lost 5.18% to settle at 37.00 and Carl Zeiss Meditec AG (DE:AFXG) which was down 4.99% to 38.935 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 537 to 194 and 35 ended unchanged on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.
The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was up 3.68% to 14.13.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.20% or 2.50 to $1249.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 0.83% or 0.40 to hit $47.84 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 1.00% or 0.51 to trade at $50.45 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.01% to 1.0811, while EUR/GBP fell 0.01% to 0.8662.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.15% at 99.40.
