Investing.com – Germany equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Food & Beverages, Retail and Utilities sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX added 0.44%, while the MDAX index climbed 0.46%, and the TecDAX index climbed 0.79%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the DAX were Volkswagen AG VZO O.N. (XETRA:VOWG_p), which rose 5.19% or 5.500 points to trade at 111.500 at the close. Lufthansa AG VNA O.N. (XETRA:LHAG) added 3.94% or 0.450 points to end at 11.880 and Merck KGAA O.N. (XETRA:MRCG) was up 1.88% or 1.480 points to 80.280 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Lanxess AG (XETRA:LXSG), which lost 2.78% or 1.265 points to trade at 44.310 in late trade. Infineon Technologies AG NA O.N. (XETRA:IFXGn) declined 2.05% or 0.194 points to end at 9.249 and Thyssenkrupp AG O.N. (XETRA:TKAG) shed 1.29% or 0.210 points to 16.045.
The top performers on the MDAX were Elringklinger AG NA O.N. (XETRA:ZILGn) which rose 4.92% to 18.240, Norma Group AG NA O.N. (XETRA:NOEJ) which was up 4.17% to settle at 45.500 and Deutsche Wohnen AG Inh (XETRA:DWNG) which gained 2.98% to close at 23.340.
The worst performers were Gerry Weber Internat.O.N. (XETRA:GWIG) which was down 1.94% to 14.160 in late trade, LEG Immobilien AG (XETRA:LEGn) which lost 1.17% to settle at 71.850 and Wincor Nixdorf O.N. (XETRA:WING) which was down 1.17% to 35.330 at the close.
The top performers on the TecDAX were Adva Optical Networking SE (XETRA:ADAG) which rose 4.59% to 9.757, Wirecard AG (XETRA:WDIG) which was up 3.04% to settle at 40.640 and Evotec AG O.N. (XETRA:EVTG) which gained 2.58% to close at 4.049.
The worst performers were QSC AG NA O.N. (XETRA:QSCG) which was down 2.90% to 1.509 in late trade, SMA Solar Technology AG (XETRA:S92G) which lost 2.74% to settle at 29.075 and Nemetschek AG O.N. (XETRA:NEKG) which was down 2.62% to 29.765 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 369 to 310 and 38 ended unchanged on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.
The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was down 2.41% to 26.28.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was up 0.52% or 5.80 to $1130.60 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 2.42% or 1.12 to hit $45.24 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract fell 1.25% or 0.61 to trade at $48.47 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.30% to 1.1161, while EUR/GBP rose 1.08% to 0.7318.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.03% at 96.47.
