Investing.com – France equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Basic Materials, Financials and Utilities sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Paris, the CAC 40 fell 1.69%, while the SBF 120 index declined 1.75%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the CAC 40 were Legrand SA (PA:LEGD), which rose 1.60% or 0.73 points to trade at 46.70 at the close. L’Oreal SA (PA:OREP) fell 0.03% or 0.05 points to end at 173.35 and Danone SA (PA:DANO) was down 0.16% or 0.10 points to 63.83 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Peugeot SA (PA:PEUP), which lost 5.43% or 0.61 points to trade at 10.62 in late trade. Technip (PA:TECF) declined 5.23% or 2.59 points to end at 46.94 and ArcelorMittal SA (AS:ISPA) shed 4.81% or 0.216 points to 4.279.
The top performers on the SBF 120 were Air France KLM SA (PA:AIRF) which rose 2.63% to 5.963, Legrand SA (PA:LEGD) which was up 1.60% to settle at 46.70 and Altran Technologies (PA:ALTT) which gained 1.09% to close at 12.035.
The worst performers were Maurel Et Prom (PA:MAUP) which was down 6.51% to 2.870 in late trade, Vallourec (PA:VLLP) which lost 6.39% to settle at 3.222 and Rexel (PA:RXL) which was down 6.01% to 10.40 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 505 to 166 and 95 ended unchanged on the Paris Stock Exchange.
The CAC 40 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of CAC 40 options, was up 6.33% to 24.90.
In commodities trading, Gold for August delivery was up 1.25% or 16.75 to $1355.75 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 4.51% or 2.21 to hit $46.78 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 4.27% or 2.14 to trade at $47.96 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 0.55% to 1.1093, while EUR/GBP rose 1.29% to 0.8499.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.49% at 96.08.
