Investing.com – France equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Basic Materials, Financials and Oil & Gas Producers sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Paris, the CAC 40 gained 3.32%, while the SBF 120 index climbed 3.09%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the CAC 40 were ArcelorMittal SA (AS:ISPA), which rose 9.62% or 0.43 points to trade at 4.92 at the close. Societe Generale (PA:SOGN) added 7.83% or 2.46 points to end at 33.81 and Lafargeholcim Ltd (PA:LHN) was up 6.91% or 2.89 points to 44.72 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Accor SA (PA:ACCP), which lost 0.59% or 0.23 points to trade at 38.77 in late trade. Vinci SA (PA:SGEF) added 0.23% or 0.15 points to end at 64.90 and Klepierre (PA:LOIM) gained 0.76% or 0.32 points to 42.45.
The top performers on the SBF 120 were ArcelorMittal SA (AS:ISPA) which rose 9.62% to 4.92, CGG (PA:GEPH) which was up 8.57% to settle at 0.76 and Natixis (PA:CNAT) which gained 7.84% to close at 4.785.
The worst performers were Iliad (PA:ILD) which was down 1.25% to 192.80 in late trade, Accor SA (PA:ACCP) which lost 0.59% to settle at 38.77 and Elis Services SA (PA:ELIS) which was down 0.49% to 17.32 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 483 to 188 and 94 ended unchanged on the Paris Stock Exchange.
The CAC 40 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of CAC 40 options, was down 8.38% to 19.95.
In commodities trading, Gold for June delivery was down 1.09% or 13.80 to $1247.10 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 0.88% or 0.37 to hit $41.80 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 0.94% or 0.42 to trade at $44.27 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 0.82% to 1.1290, while EUR/GBP fell 0.50% to 0.7942.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.71% at 94.69.
