Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Marine Transport, Manufacturing and Power sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 gained 0.30%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were NEC Corp. (TOKYO:6701), which rose 9.09% or 33.0 points to trade at 396.0 at the close. The Kansai Electric Power Co. (TOKYO:9503) added 7.99% or 124.5 points to end at 1682.0 and Fujifilm Holdings Corp. (TOKYO:4901) was up 7.85% or 358.0 points to 4919.5 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Nichirei Corp. (TOKYO:2871), which lost 8.99% or 80.0 points to trade at 810.0 in late trade. Sumitomo Heavy Industries, Ltd. (TOKYO:6302) declined 6.43% or 43.0 points to end at 626.0 and Mitsubishi Motors Corp. (TOKYO:7211) shed 4.95% or 55.0 points to 1055.0.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1282 to 596 on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 2.87% to 17.57.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for September delivery was down 1.00% or 0.48 to $48.03 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in September fell 0.94% or 0.50 to hit $52.81 a barrel, while the December Gold contract fell 0.48% or 5.20 to trade at $1083.50 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.03% to 124.17, while EUR/JPY rose 0.22% to 136.03.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.15% at 97.47.
