Investing.com — Electronic Arts Inc (NASDAQ:EA) shares rose 1.6% Friday after its FIFA 22 game hit the top of the September charts in the UK after just one week, according to Gameindustry.biz.
Launch sales were up 10% over FIFA 21, a report by Christopher Dring said.
Data from GSD revealed that physical boxed sales dropped 34% compared to the previous year's game. Digital downloads, on the other hand, increased by 37%. Overall, digital outlets accounted for 77% of FIFA 22's first-week sales compared with 62% for FIFA 21.
Dring went on to say that overall, during September 2021, FIFA 22 sales in the UK amounted to 3.36 million (2.26 million digital and 1.1 million physical).
The report adds to the positive news for EA's game sales this week after NPD analyst Mat Piscatella said Monday that EA's "Madden NFL 22" was the best-selling game in the U.S. for September.
Earlier this month, EA shares fell after football governing body FIFA said it would "adopt a new commercial positioning in gaming and eSports."
