Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Healthcare, Financials and Utilities sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite declined 0.16%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were ProMetic Life Sciences Inc. (TO:PLI), which rose 6.87% or 0.20 points to trade at 3.11 at the close. Westshore Terminals Investment Corp (TO:WTE) added 5.18% or 0.81 points to end at 16.44 and Enerplus Corporation (TO:ERF) was up 4.88% or 0.23 points to 4.94 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Concordia Healthcare (TO:CXR), which lost 13.24% or 5.34 points to trade at 34.99 in late trade. Intertain Group (TO:IT) declined 8.10% or 0.85 points to end at 9.65 and Corus Entertainment Inc (TO:CJRb) shed 7.46% or 0.86 points to 10.67.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 613 to 585 and 352 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 3.94% to 18.06 a new 1-month low.
In commodities trading, Gold for April delivery was down 0.55% or 6.70 to $1217.30 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 0.63% or 0.25 to hit $39.54 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 0.05% or 0.02 to trade at $40.45 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.28% to 0.7551, while CAD/EUR fell 0.24% to 0.6755.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.09% at 96.15.
