Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Materials, REITs and Clean Technology sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 1.00%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Saputo Inc (TSX:SAP), which rose 6.76% or 1.89 points to trade at 29.84 at the close. North West Company Inc (TSX:NWC) added 6.33% or 2.57 points to end at 43.19 and Secure Energy Services Inc . (TSX:SES) was up 4.50% or 0.52 points to 12.07 in late trade.
Biggest losers included IAMGold Corporation (TSX:IMG), which lost 9.54% or 0.52 points to trade at 4.93 in late trade. Eldorado Gold Corp (TSX:ELD) declined 7.42% or 1.66 points to end at 20.70 and Pan American Silver Corp (TSX:PAAS) shed 7.31% or 2.16 points to 27.37.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 715 to 251 and 91 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 5.08% to 9.73.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 3.43% or 81.90 to $2,309.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 0.36% or 0.27 to hit $75.28 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 0.61% or 0.49 to trade at $79.38 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.67% to 0.73, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.10% to 0.67.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.81% at 104.89.
