Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Utilities, Materials and Industrials sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite declined 0.36%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Bausch Health Companies Inc (TSX:BHC), which rose 11.78% or 1.15 points to trade at 10.91 at the close. NFI Group Inc (TSX:NFI) added 3.74% or 0.67 points to end at 18.57 and BCE Inc (TSX:BCE) was up 3.34% or 1.57 points to 48.52 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Aya Gold & Silver Inc (TSX:AYA), which lost 4.51% or 0.71 points to trade at 15.04 in late trade. SilverCrest Metals Inc (TSX:SIL) declined 4.48% or 0.58 points to end at 12.37 and Equinox Gold Corp (TSX:EQX) shed 3.82% or 0.32 points to 8.05.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 468 to 429 and 132 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 4.21% to 11.88.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.36% or 9.30 to $2,583.10 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 1.14% or 0.80 to hit $69.16 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract fell 1.03% or 0.76 to trade at $72.94 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.08% to 0.73, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.12% to 0.66.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.07% at 100.64.
