Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Materials, Telecoms and Industrials sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 0.08%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Shopify Inc (TSX:SHOP), which rose 6.86% or 26.820 points to trade at 417.540 at the close. HudBay Minerals Inc (TSX:HBM) added 3.92% or 0.20 points to end at 5.30 and Wesdome Gold Mines Ltd. (TSX:WDO) was up 3.65% or 0.230 points to 6.530 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Eldorado Gold Corp (TSX:ELD), which lost 8.10% or 0.96 points to trade at 10.89 in late trade. MAG Silver Corp (TSX:MAG) declined 6.03% or 0.99 points to end at 15.44 and Seabridge Gold Inc . (TSX:SEA) shed 5.96% or 1.16 points to 18.29.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 566 to 473 and 121 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 4.07% to 12.50.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 1.91% or 29.40 to $1510.80 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 1.22% or 0.70 to hit $56.59 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract unchanged 0.00% or 0.00 to trade at $62.55 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.03% to 0.7539, while CAD/EUR rose 0.04% to 0.6887.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.72% at 98.632.
