Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the IT, Industrials and Financials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 1.02%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Real Matters Inc (TSX:REAL), which rose 4.28% or 1.03 points to trade at 25.09 at the close. Ivanhoe Mines Ltd. (TSX:IVN) added 3.80% or 0.14 points to end at 3.82 and Parex Resources Inc (TSX:PXT) was up 3.68% or 0.57 points to 16.04 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Canfor Corporation (TSX:CFP), which lost 4.16% or 0.48 points to trade at 11.06 in late trade. Labrador Iron Ore Royalty Corp (TSX:LIF) declined 3.69% or 0.92 points to end at 24.01 and Aurora Cannabis Inc (TSX:ACB) shed 3.54% or 0.660 points to 17.960.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 546 to 468 and 120 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.15% or 2.75 to $1772.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 3.05% or 1.16 to hit $39.17 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 3.18% or 1.28 to trade at $41.59 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.04% to 0.7333, while CAD/EUR rose 0.31% to 0.6534.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.21% at 97.335.
