Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Energy, Clean Technology and Industrials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.60% to hit a new 6-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were BlackBerry Ltd (TSX:BB), which rose 11.04% or 1.06 points to trade at 10.66 at the close. Crescent Point Energy Corp . (TSX:CPG) added 9.88% or 0.24 points to end at 2.67 and MEG Energy Corp (TSX:MEG) was up 9.33% or 0.35 points to 4.10 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Trillium Therapeutics Inc (TSX:TRIL), which lost 9.71% or 2.26 points to trade at 21.01 in late trade. Seabridge Gold Inc . (TSX:SEA) declined 7.85% or 1.96 points to end at 23.01 and Descartes Systems Group Inc (TSX:DSG) shed 4.76% or 3.68 points to 73.59.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 614 to 427 and 117 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.04% or 0.65 to $1840.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 1.21% or 0.55 to hit $46.19 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 1.01% or 0.49 to trade at $49.20 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.67% to 0.7825, while CAD/EUR rose 0.70% to 0.6444.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.03% at 90.688.
