Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the IT, Materials and Mining sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.38% to hit a new 3-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were SilverCrest Metals Inc (TSX:SIL), which rose 11.16% or 1.37 points to trade at 13.65 at the close. OceanaGold Corporation (TSX:OGC) added 9.85% or 0.320 points to end at 3.570 and First Majestic Silver Corp. (TSX:FR) was up 9.23% or 1.33 points to 15.74 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Methanex Corporation (TSX:MX), which lost 4.79% or 1.34 points to trade at 26.62 in late trade. Martinrea International Inc . (TSX:MRE) declined 3.46% or 0.36 points to end at 10.05 and First Quantum Minerals Ltd . (TSX:FM) shed 3.42% or 0.46 points to 13.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 534 to 501 and 107 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.48% or 8.75 to $1818.75 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 0.22% or 0.09 to hit $40.84 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 0.21% or 0.09 to trade at $43.23 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.30% to 0.7386, while CAD/EUR rose 0.10% to 0.6453.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.12% at 95.770.
