Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Clean Technology, REITs and Financials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.19% to hit a new all time high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Celestica Inc. (TSX:CLS), which rose 7.21% or 4.28 points to trade at 63.68 at the close. BlackBerry Ltd (TSX:BB) added 5.35% or 0.19 points to end at 3.74 and Capstone Mining Corp (TSX:CS) was up 3.19% or 0.25 points to 8.09 in late trade.
Biggest losers included First Quantum Minerals Ltd . (TSX:FM), which lost 5.78% or 0.85 points to trade at 13.85 in late trade. Alimentation Couche Tard Inc (TSX:ATD) declined 4.21% or 3.43 points to end at 78.09 and New Gold Inc (TSX:NGD) shed 3.49% or 0.08 points to 2.21.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 617 to 358 and 100 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 10.24% to 10.17 a new 1-month low.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 1.05% or 22.60 to $2,183.60 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 0.46% or 0.37 to hit $80.90 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 0.40% or 0.34 to trade at $85.61 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.27% to 0.74, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.32% to 0.68.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.64% at 103.71.
