Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Materials, Telecoms and Consumer Discretionary sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.05%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Aritzia Inc (TSX:ATZ), which rose 16.03% or 2.59 points to trade at 18.75 at the close. First Majestic Silver Corp. (TSX:FR) added 8.24% or 1.00 points to end at 13.13 and Interfor Corp (TSX:IFP) was up 6.59% or 0.87 points to 14.07 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Aphria Inc (TSX:APHA), which lost 10.47% or 0.750 points to trade at 6.410 in late trade. Shopify Inc (TSX:SHOP) declined 6.56% or 29.970 points to end at 426.940 and Turquoise Hill Resources Ltd. (TSX:TRQ) shed 4.69% or 0.030 points to 0.610.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 553 to 482 and 130 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 2.13% to 12.43.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.70% or 10.45 to $1493.95 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 0.32% or 0.17 to hit $52.98 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 0.03% or 0.02 to trade at $59.08 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.04% to 0.7576, while CAD/EUR rose 0.07% to 0.6843.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.27% at 97.738.
