Investing.com – Brazil equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Basic Materials, Public Utilities and Financials sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa lost 3.01% to hit a new 1-month low.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Fibria Celulose SA (SA:FIBR3), which rose 2.03% or 0.48 points to trade at 24.08 at the close. JBS SA (SA:JBSS3) added 1.46% or 0.17 points to end at 11.79 and Embraer SA (SA:EMBR3) was up 1.21% or 0.19 points to 15.87 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Gerdau SA (SA:GGBR4), which lost 8.76% or 0.83 points to trade at 8.65 in late trade. Metalurgica Gerdau SA (SA:GOAU4) declined 8.43% or 0.350 points to end at 3.800 and Usinas Siderurgicas de Minas Gerais (SA:USIM5) shed 7.71% or 0.30 points to 3.59.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 249 to 80 and 36 ended unchanged on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was up 12.84% to 38.32 a new 1-month high.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was down 0.33% or 4.35 to $1321.25 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October fell 2.53% or 1.17 to hit $45.12 a barrel, while the December US coffee C contract fell 1.16% or 1.75 to trade at $148.98 .
USD/BRL was up 2.13% to 3.3148, while EUR/BRL rose 1.98% to 3.7184.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.45% at 95.55.
