Investing.com – Brazil equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Basic Materials, Consumption and Industrials sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa fell 1.86%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Natura Cosmeticos SA (SA:NATU3), which rose 1.41% or 0.38 points to trade at 27.40 at the close. Cia Energetica de Sao Paulo (SA:CESP6) added 1.02% or 0.20 points to end at 19.55 and Marfrig Alimentos SA (SA:MRFG3) was up 0.71% or 0.04 points to 5.64 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Gol Linhas Aereas Inteligentes SA (SA:GOLL4), which lost 5.16% or 0.40 points to trade at 7.35 in late trade. Oi SA (SA:OIBR4) declined 4.82% or 0.30 points to end at 5.93 and Cia Siderurgica Nacional SA (SA:CSNA3) shed 4.32% or 0.24 points to 5.32.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 228 to 66 and 3 ended unchanged on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was up 5.51% to 30.83.
In commodities trading, Gold for August delivery was up 0.46% or 5.40 to $1178.60 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 2.36% or 1.41 to hit $58.23 a barrel, while the September US coffee C contract fell 0.67% or 0.90 to trade at $132.45 .
USD/BRL was down 0.26% to 3.1216, while EUR/BRL rose 0.40% to 3.5084.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.55% at 95.08.
