Investing.com – Brazil equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Basic Materials, Real Estate and Public Utilities sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa fell 1.25%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Fibria Celulose SA (SA:FIBR3), which rose 3.90% or 0.98 points to trade at 26.09 at the close. Suzano Papel e Celulose SA (SA:SUZB5) added 2.38% or 0.29 points to end at 12.46 and Embraer SA (SA:EMBR3) was up 2.13% or 0.39 points to 18.73 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Metalurgica Gerdau SA (SA:GOAU4), which lost 6.00% or 0.39 points to trade at 6.11 in late trade. Gerdau SA Pref (SA:GGBR4) declined 5.76% or 0.75 points to end at 12.27 and Petroleo Brasileiro SA (SA:PETR3) shed 5.35% or 0.85 points to 15.03.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 238 to 102 and 33 ended unchanged on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was up 5.07% to 32.95.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.58% or 7.05 to $1209.05 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 5.33% or 2.83 to hit $50.31 a barrel, while the May US coffee C contract rose 0.64% or 0.90 to trade at $141.52 .
USD/BRL was up 1.48% to 3.1656, while EUR/BRL rose 1.28% to 3.3388.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.26% at 102.07.
