Investing.com – Brazil equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Public Utilities, Electric Power and Financials sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa lost 0.36%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were MRV Engenharia e Participacoes SA (SA:MRVE3), which rose 5.14% or 0.73 points to trade at 14.93 at the close. Fibria Celulose SA (SA:FIBR3) added 2.77% or 0.72 points to end at 26.72 and Suzano Papel e Celulose SA (SA:SUZB5) was up 2.48% or 0.31 points to 12.79 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Cia de Saneamento Basico do Estado (SA:SBSP3), which lost 4.69% or 1.54 points to trade at 31.29 in late trade. CEMIG - Companhia Energetica Minas Gerais Pref (SA:CMIG4) declined 4.25% or 0.48 points to end at 10.82 and Equatorial Energia SA (SA:EQTL3) shed 3.79% or 2.23 points to 56.54.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 204 to 136 and 27 ended unchanged on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was up 0.63% to 33.29.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.58% or 7.05 to $1202.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 1.29% or 0.65 to hit $49.63 a barrel, while the May US coffee C contract fell 0.72% or 1.02 to trade at $140.50 .
USD/BRL was up 0.89% to 3.1913, while EUR/BRL rose 1.36% to 3.3793.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.23% at 101.88.
