Investing.com – Brazil equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Electric Power, Consumption and Public Utilities sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa rose 1.01%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Localiza Rent a Car SA (SA:RENT3), which rose 5.24% or 1.83 points to trade at 36.76 at the close. Smiles ON (SA:SMLE3) added 5.10% or 2.34 points to end at 48.20 and Kroton Educacional SA (SA:KROT3) was up 5.03% or 0.660 points to 13.790 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Banco do Brasil SA (SA:BBAS3), which lost 4.46% or 0.74 points to trade at 15.85 in late trade. Qualicorp SA (SA:QUAL3) declined 2.97% or 0.54 points to end at 17.65 and Equatorial Energia SA (SA:EQTL3) shed 1.66% or 0.80 points to 47.28.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 164 to 129 and 21 ended unchanged on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was down 0.49% to 40.95.
In commodities trading, Gold for August delivery was down 1.71% or 22.15 to $1269.95 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 0.68% or 0.34 to hit $50.30 a barrel, while the September US coffee C contract fell 0.01% or 0.02 to trade at $141.60 .
USD/BRL was up 0.60% to 3.4150, while EUR/BRL rose 0.12% to 3.8447.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.47% at 94.12.
