Investing.com – Brazil equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Basic Materials, Industrials and Real Estate sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa rose 0.68%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Usinas Siderurgicas de Minas Gerais (SA:USIM5), which rose 6.60% or 0.32 points to trade at 5.17 at the close. Petroleo Brasileiro SA (SA:PETR3) added 5.19% or 0.48 points to end at 9.72 and Fibria Celulose SA (SA:FIBR3) was up 4.95% or 1.98 points to 42.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included EDP - Energias do Brasil SA (SA:ENBR3), which lost 3.30% or 0.34 points to trade at 9.97 in late trade. Even Construtora e Incorporadora SA (SA:EVEN3) declined 3.02% or 0.14 points to end at 4.50 and Marfrig Alimentos SA (SA:MRFG3) shed 2.59% or 0.11 points to 4.14.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 142 to 121 and 9 ended unchanged on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was up 3.44% to 38.51.
In commodities trading, Gold for April delivery was up 0.30% or 3.60 to $1195.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 3.14% or 1.49 to hit $49.00 a barrel, while the May US coffee C contract rose 1.42% or 1.95 to trade at $139.60 .
USD/BRL was up 1.93% to 3.2001, while EUR/BRL rose 2.39% to 3.5117.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.35% at 97.08.
