Investing.com – Brazil equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Public Utilities, Electric Power and Financials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa gained 0.66%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Marcopolo SA (SA:POMO4), which rose 5.78% or 0.13 points to trade at 2.38 at the close. Qualicorp SA (SA:QUAL3) added 3.61% or 0.74 points to end at 21.25 and ALL America Latina Logistica SA (SA:RUMO3) was up 3.08% or 0.04 points to 1.34 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Gerdau SA (SA:GGBR4), which lost 3.90% or 0.28 points to trade at 6.90 in late trade. Metalurgica Gerdau SA (SA:GOAU4) declined 3.33% or 0.20 points to end at 5.81 and Gol Linhas Aereas Inteligentes SA (SA:GOLL4) shed 3.23% or 0.23 points to 6.89.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 154 to 128 and 6 ended unchanged on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was down 0.91% to 29.35.
In commodities trading, Gold for August delivery was down 0.29% or 3.40 to $1165.90 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 0.72% or 0.41 to hit $56.55 a barrel, while the September US coffee C contract unchanged 0.00% or 0.00 to trade at $126.97 .
USD/BRL was down 1.69% to 3.0953, while EUR/BRL fell 1.43% to 3.4310.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.20% at 96.28.
