Investing.com – Belgium equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Chemicals, Basic Materials and Construction & Materials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Brussels, the BEL 20 added 0.49%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the BEL 20 were Solvay SA (BRU:SOLB), which rose 3.10% or 3.85 points to trade at 128.00 at the close. DIeteren SA (BRU:IETB) added 2.10% or 0.660 points to end at 32.140 and Umicore NV (BRU:UMI) was up 1.81% or 0.69 points to 39.03 in late trade.
Biggest losers included UCB (BRU:UCB), which lost 3.60% or 2.50 points to trade at 67.00 in late trade. GDF Suez SA (PARIS:GSZ) declined 2.06% or 0.35 points to end at 16.52 and Elia (BRU:ELI) shed 0.28% or 0.105 points to 37.530.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 112 to 52 and 5 ended unchanged on the Brussels Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was down 0.17% or 1.90 to $1095.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 1.58% or 0.75 to hit $48.14 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 0.38% or 0.20 to trade at $53.67 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 0.31% to 1.1054, while EUR/GBP fell 0.66% to 0.7079.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.16% at 96.78.
