Investing.com – Belgium equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Utilities, Consumer Services and Telecoms sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Brussels, the BEL 20 added 0.35%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the BEL 20 were Engie SA (PA:ENGIE), which rose 2.00% or 0.29 points to trade at 14.80 at the close. bpost NV (BR:BPOST) added 1.41% or 0.36 points to end at 25.86 and ING Groep NV (AS:INGA) was up 1.12% or 0.170 points to 15.350 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Galapagos NV (AS:GLPG), which lost 2.73% or 2.090 points to trade at 74.450 in late trade. Anheuser Busch Inbev SA NV (BR:ABI) declined 1.17% or 1.16 points to end at 97.85 and Umicore SA (BR:UMI) shed 0.66% or 0.26 points to 38.97.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 59 to 58 and 9 ended unchanged on the Brussels Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.87% or 11.26 to $1283.64 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 1.57% or 0.91 to hit $57.08 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 1.44% or 0.91 to trade at $62.33 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.18% to 1.1861, while EUR/GBP fell 0.53% to 0.8826.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.11% at 93.10.
