Investing.com – Belgium equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Telecoms, Basic Materials and Technology sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Brussels, the BEL 20 gained 0.31%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the BEL 20 were bpost NV (BR:BPOST), which rose 4.54% or 0.34 points to trade at 7.83 at the close. Proximus NV (BR:PROX) added 1.86% or 0.44 points to end at 24.14 and Telenet Group Holding NV (BR:TNET) was up 1.29% or 0.54 points to 42.40 in late trade.
Biggest losers included UCB (BR:UCB), which lost 1.61% or 1.18 points to trade at 72.14 in late trade. Aperam SA (AS:APAM) declined 1.03% or 0.24 points to end at 23.00 and Umicore SA (BR:UMI) shed 0.81% or 0.29 points to 35.41.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 61 to 49 and 12 ended unchanged on the Brussels Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.39% or 4.95 to $1258.55 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 3.11% or 1.45 to hit $48.05 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 2.47% or 1.39 to trade at $57.65 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.58% to 1.1428, while EUR/GBP rose 0.37% to 0.9022.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.51% at 96.078.
