Investing.com – Japan equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Shipbuilding, Transportation Equipment and Finance & Investment sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 lost 2.88%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were The Kansai Electric Power Co. (TOKYO:9503), which fell 0.70% or 9.5 points to trade at 1349.5 at the close. Taisei Corp. (TOKYO:1801) fell 0.71% or 5.0 points to end at 703.0 and Nichirei Corp. (TOKYO:2871) was down 0.95% or 8.0 points to 834.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Takashimaya Co., Ltd. (TOKYO:8233), which lost 5.59% or 66.0 points to trade at 1114.0 in late trade. Nippon Electric Glass Co., Ltd. (TOKYO:5214) declined 5.27% or 34.0 points to end at 611.0 and Nippon Sheet Glass Co., Ltd. (TOKYO:5202) shed 5.11% or 7.0 points to 130.0.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1821 to 61 on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 28.52% to 23.75 a new 3-month high.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for August delivery was down 1.47% or 0.88 to $58.76 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in August fell 1.21% or 0.77 to hit $62.49 a barrel, while the August Gold contract rose 0.64% or 7.50 to trade at $1180.70 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.82% to 122.84, while EUR/JPY fell 1.52% to 136.24.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.31% at 95.90.
