Investing.com – Australia equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Energy, Gold and Telecoms Services sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Sydney, the S&P/ASX 200 declined 0.47%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were Seven West Media Ltd (ASX:SWM), which rose 9.63% or 0.065 points to trade at 0.740 at the close. Syrah Res F (ASX:SYR) added 5.51% or 0.150 points to end at 2.870 and Nsreit Stapled (ASX:NSR) was up 5.17% or 0.075 points to 1.525 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Ansell Ltd (ASX:ANN), which lost 4.45% or 0.970 points to trade at 20.820 in late trade. AWE Ltd (ASX:AWE) declined 3.68% or 0.025 points to end at 0.655 and Liquefied Natural Gas Ltd (ASX:LNG) shed 3.38% or 0.070 points to 2.000.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 488 to 441 and 155 ended unchanged on the Sydney Stock Exchange.
The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was down 2.08% to 25.783.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was down 0.03% or 0.30 to $1109.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October fell 1.43% or 0.66 to hit $45.27 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 1.00% or 0.49 to trade at $48.40 a barrel.
AUD/USD was down 0.06% to 0.7062, while AUD/JPY rose 0.01% to 85.24.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.06% at 95.50.
