Investing.com – Australia equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Energy, Resources and Telecoms Services sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Sydney, the S&P/ASX 200 fell 0.11%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were Domino'S Pizza Enterprises Ltd (AX:DMP), which rose 6.91% or 2.750 points to trade at 42.520 at the close. Northern Star Resources Ltd (AX:NST) added 5.57% or 0.160 points to end at 3.030 and Arrium Ltd (AX:ARI) was up 5.00% or 0.005 points to 0.105 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Origin Energy Ltd (AX:ORG), which lost 7.42% or 0.440 points to trade at 5.490 in late trade. Santos Ltd (AX:STO) declined 6.83% or 0.380 points to end at 5.180 and Liquefied Natural Gas Ltd (AX:LNG) shed 6.36% or 0.105 points to 1.545.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 488 to 476 and 123 ended unchanged on the Sydney Stock Exchange.
The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was down 2.99% to 20.247 a new 1-month low.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was up 0.63% or 7.30 to $1172.70 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 0.13% or 0.06 to hit $46.72 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 0.11% or 0.06 to trade at $49.74 a barrel.
AUD/USD was down 0.11% to 0.7236, while AUD/JPY fell 0.17% to 86.60.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.15% at 94.66.
