Investing.com – Australia equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Utilities, Industrials and Healthcare sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Sydney, the S&P/ASX 200 gained 1.00%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were Sirius Resources NL (ASX:SIR), which rose 20.37% or 0.660 points to trade at 3.900 at the close. Skilled Group Ltd (ASX:SKE) added 11.79% or 0.145 points to end at 1.375 and Senex Energy Ltd (ASX:SXY) was up 5.56% or 0.020 points to 0.380 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Independence Group NL (ASX:IGO), which lost 11.97% or 0.700 points to trade at 5.150 in late trade. Sundance Energy Australia Ltd (ASX:SEA) declined 3.28% or 0.020 points to end at 0.590 and Ardent Leisure Group (ASX:AAD) shed 3.20% or 0.070 points to 2.120.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 548 to 482 and 175 ended unchanged on the Sydney Stock Exchange.
The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was down 1.37% to 15.369.
In commodities trading, Gold for August delivery was up 0.06% or 0.70 to $1205.60 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 0.13% or 0.07 to hit $59.80 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 0.06% or 0.04 to trade at $65.33 a barrel.
AUD/USD was up 0.10% to 0.7832, while AUD/JPY rose 0.14% to 95.22.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.04% at 96.29.
