Investing.com – Australia equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Gold, Energy and Resources sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Sydney, the S&P/ASX 200 gained 0.11%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were Sirtex Medical Ltd (ASX:SRX), which rose 9.69% or 2.910 points to trade at 32.940 at the close. Flight Centre Ltd (ASX:FLT) added 6.92% or 2.260 points to end at 34.900 and Rea Group Ltd (ASX:REA) was up 6.43% or 2.650 points to 43.850 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Metcash Ltd (ASX:MTS), which lost 6.33% or 0.075 points to trade at 1.110 in late trade. Computershare Ltd. (ASX:CPU) declined 5.75% or 0.610 points to end at 10.000 and Beach Energy Ltd (ASX:BPT) shed 4.60% or 0.040 points to 0.830.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 507 to 479 and 164 ended unchanged on the Sydney Stock Exchange.
The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was down 1.68% to 19.192.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was down 0.21% or 2.40 to $1121.20 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 0.57% or 0.24 to hit $43.55 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 0.60% or 0.30 to trade at $50.48 a barrel.
AUD/USD was down 0.19% to 0.7364, while AUD/JPY rose 0.04% to 91.68.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.29% at 96.56.
