Investing.com – Germany equities were mixed at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Consumer & Cyclical, Media and Insurance sectors propelled shares higher while losses in the Utilities, Basic Resources and Transportation & Logistics sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX rose 0.31%, while the MDAX index added 0.36%, and the TecDAX index lost 0.29%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the DAX were Fresenius SE & Co KGAA O.N. (DE:FREG), which rose 1.28% or 0.770 points to trade at 60.880 at the close. Heidelbergcement AG O.N. (DE:HEIG) added 1.05% or 0.720 points to end at 69.530 and BASF SE NA O.N. (DE:BASFN) was up 1.04% or 0.660 points to 64.350 in late trade.
Biggest losers included E.ON SE NA (DE:EONGn), which lost 3.09% or 0.257 points to trade at 8.073 in late trade. Bay.Motoren Werke AG ST (DE:BMWG) declined 1.85% or 1.480 points to end at 78.540 and Deutsche Post AG NA O.N. (DE:DPWGn) shed 1.67% or 0.390 points to 22.910.
The top performers on the MDAX were Gerry Weber Internat.O.N. (DE:GWIG) which rose 3.66% to 12.310, Elringklinger AG NA O.N. (DE:ZILGn) which was up 3.04% to settle at 23.045 and Rheinmetall AG (DE:RHMG) which gained 1.48% to close at 67.380.
The worst performers were Salzgitter AG O.N. (DE:SZGG) which was down 2.21% to 21.870 in late trade, Krones AG O.N. (DE:KRNG) which lost 2.02% to settle at 97.020 and Hugo Boss AG NA O.N. (DE:BOSSn) which was down 1.24% to 54.010 at the close.
The top performers on the TecDAX were LPKF Laser & Electronics (DE:LPKG) which rose 3.15% to 7.444, CompuGroup Medical AG O.N. (DE:COPMa) which was up 2.30% to settle at 35.165 and PSI AG F.Pr.U.Sys. NA (DE:PSAGn) which gained 1.88% to close at 14.395.
The worst performers were Dialog Semiconductor (DE:DLGS) which was down 3.98% to 30.750 in late trade, Morphosys AG O.N. (DE:MORG) which lost 3.57% to settle at 38.930 and Sartorius AG VZO O.N. (DE:SATG_p) which was down 2.54% to 226.600 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 439 to 297 and 17 ended unchanged on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.
The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was up 0.74% to 24.50.
In commodities trading, Gold for April delivery was down 0.62% or 7.80 to $1255.10 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April rose 4.16% or 1.52 to hit $38.02 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 3.35% or 1.33 to trade at $40.98 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.11% to 1.1022, while EUR/GBP rose 0.01% to 0.7747.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.15% at 97.01.
